Saya Sakakibara Race Report Penrith Open 5th September 2015 Penrith, NSW
Penrith Open was definitely something different. It was held on Saturday night so we raced
under lights. I was looking forward to race.
The open races around NSW are part of the NSW Pro Series. There are 7 rounds in total and so
far I have missed out on 4 round out of 5 so far due to being overseas. But I was able to
compete in the last 2 rounds so I wasn’t worried.
The wind picked up in the aIernoon when pracJce started and I was very worried about it, even
though it wasn’t very strong. I wanted to jump the double at the end of the first straight
because it will give me a good advantage to get ahead.
I struggled to get my confidence to jump that double in the first two motos, even though it
wasn’t a very hard jump. I knew I had to do it on the third moto.
AIer the third moto, I was very saJsfied. I was able to jump the first straight, and the rest of the
track was smooth. I was looking to conJnue that for the final.
Being a pro, I had the privilege of giving out the liNle trophies for the sprockets aIer they cross
the finish line for their last race of the day. It’s great to see the big smiles on their faces as they
receive the trophies.
By the Jme the final came around, it was dark and a liNle chilly. However the wind had died
down and it was perfect condiJon. Being at the boNom of the finals order, everyone was
anxious to get home and to see the last two races of the day. In my lap in the final I made a few
mistakes and it wasn’t perfect but it was my fastest Jme of the day. The first straight felt good,
jumping the double into the first corner, and the rest of the track was smooth. I came 1st.
